==Prologue ==

Have you ever felt like you were in a hole, and couldn't get out? Have you felt like you were so alone, and so sad, and you felt like you were never going to be happy again? And then, suddenly, the most amazing person you've ever met comes into your life (quite by accident), and saves you from yourself? For some people that person is a family member, a really good friend, or a lover.

Seventeen-year-old Judy Davis looked out over the highway, observing the water below. She had no idea how to swim. But at this point in her life, she was grateful for that fact. If she had done what she was about to do, some people would be devastated at this fact, and the world may not have even existed.

Judy slowly climbed onto the railing. Her heart started to beat fast. Suddenly, she heard an odd sound. It was like a loud whirring. Judy quickly turned her head. In the middle of the road, something appeared out of nowhere. Judy raised her eyebrows. It was an old, 1960s police box.

The Doctor faced Judy. "Okay. I am a Timelord from the planet Galifray who travels through time and space. These guys are my traveling companions. Remember that blue box called the Tardis? It's my time machine that's bigger on the inside. It took me here because it knew that someone was in trouble. And that someone happened to be you! Got it?"

Judy closed her eyes and slowly opened them again. "Yikes," she said, "am I supposed to believe that?"

Judy winced as her mother's sharp nails pierced her skin. She turned to her friends-yes, they were her friends now-and said, "I'll be right back." <!-- Use this section to put the plot of your story in. This what happens in your story; all the text of the story. -->

  +
Anna pushed Judy into the room, and for the next couple of minutes, all the Doctor, Ryan, Yaz and Graham could hear was yelling and cursing from Judy's mum. Then, they heard a ''THWACK'' and a short yelp from Judy. She was pushed out of the room, and the door slammed in her face. She was rubbing her jaw.

"What happened?" Ryan asked. Judy didn't answer. She ran into the bathroom and slammed the door. "Okay, then," Ryan whispered.
  +
  +
Yaz frowned. "I think her mum slapped her." Ryan's eyes widened. Just then, Judy walked out, holding a wet washcloth to her face.
  +
  +
"You okay, love?" Graham asked, with compassion in his voice.
  +
  +
"Yeah, I guess. My mum sure knows how to plant a nice punch!" Judy chuckled. She removed
  +
the washcloth and let everyone see. A chorus of gasps went around the room.
  +
  +
“Goodness gracious Judy, that is child abuse!” Yaz remarked
  +
  +
Judy shrugged. “It’s always worse when Dad’s not around. I’ve been thrown into a wall before.
  +
I'll be fine.”
  +
  +
The Doctor stood up. “I will not tolerate this! Judy, come on. You’re part of the fam now.”
  +
  +
“Fam?” Judy questioned.
  +
  +
“It’s what she calls us. It’s a dumb name, I know,” Ryan said.
  +
  +
Judy smiled, then winced. She asked the Doctor, “Where are we going?”
  +
  +
“To meet your dad,” the Doctor answered. “I can get access.” She held up the piece of paper she
  +
had showed Judy’s mum. “Psychic paper. It makes people see anything I want them to see. Sometimes it makes them see what they want to see. Either way, it’ll get us in.”
  +
  +
They walked out of the flat. Immediately they were greeted by a woman who looked to be in
  +
her early twenties. Judy waved and said, “Hey, Jill! Guys, this is my older sister, Jill. Jill, this is Yaz, Ryan, Graham, and the Doctor.”
  +
  +
“Friends? Finally. What are you covering on your face, Judy,” Jill asked.
  +
  +
“Nothing,” Judy answered shyly.
  +
  +
In one swift move, Jill removed Judy’s hand from her face and pulled it down. Jill's
  +
eyes went wide. “That’s quite a shiner. Did Mum...” Judy nodded. “Judy...I’m so sorry...if there’s
  +
anything I can do…” she stuttered.
  +
  +
Judy perked up. “Let me borrow your car without asking you why?”
  +
  +
Jill sighed. “Fine. As long as it’s not a party, or for you running away, go away. I swear,
  +
Judy, one of these days, you’re going to almost kill yourself.”
  +
  +
Judy looked at the ground.
  +
  +
“Don’t speak those words over her!” Yaz snapped.
  +
  +
“It’s okay. It’s true,” Judy mumbled.
  +
  +
The Doctor narrowed her eyes at Judy. Suddenly, in that moment, she realized why Judy had
  +
been standing on the highway railing. It made the Doctor have even more compassion for the girl.
  +
  +
==Chapter 3==
  +
About half an hour later, they pulled up at the jail and got out of the car. They walked to the
  +
door, the Doctor leading the way. The security guard stopped them, but the Doctor showed him her psychic paper, and he promptly opened the door for them.
  +
  +
The front desk had a policeman sitting at it. His eyes widened at the sight of the Doctor and her
  +
gang. “Who the heck are you guys?” he asked.
  +
  +
The Doctor showed him her paper. “Scotland Yard. These people are with me. They’re my fam.
  +
Heh heh.” Yaz gave the Doctor a death stare. The Doctor smiled and went on. “We’re here to
  +
interrogate Jackson Davis, the man who was arrested for robbery.”
  +
  +
The policeman scoffed. “I wasn’t informed of an interrogation!”
  +
  +
“And who said you needed to be informed of it? Maybe I currently hold a rank higher than you,
  +
and maybe if you don’t let us in, I can demote you to caretaker,” the Doctor snapped.
  +
  +
“Ooh. Sweet burn,” Ryan whispered. Judy chuckled.
  +
  +
The officer blinked twice and stood up. “Right this way, ma’am.” But he stopped Judy. “How
  +
old are you?”
  +
  +
“Seventeen,” Judy answered quickly.
  +
  +
“Sorry, missy. you’re too young. Wait here,” the officer ordered.
  +
  +
Judy’s eyebrows raised. Before the Doctor could say anything, Ryan walked up to the officer,
  +
looked him in the eyes and said, “Judy’s coming with us. She’s our friend. And that man in there is her father, whom she has the right to see. So let her in, or else.”
  +
  +
The officer stepped back and said, “Her father? Why didn’t you tell me? ‘Course she can come.
  +
C’mon, this way!” He stepped in front of everyone and led the way.
  +
  +
Judy looked up at Ryan with grateful eyes and said, “Thank you Ryan. That meant a lot to me.
  +
No-one’s ever stood up for me like that.”
  +
  +
Ryan patted her shoulder and said, “No problem. Friends stick up for each other.”
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled at them. Judy was looking into his eyes. Human admiration for each other
  +
was so weird, interesting, and beautiful all at the same time.
  +
  +
The officer led them to the back of the jail.”Wait here. I'll move him to the interrogation room,”
  +
he said. A few minutes later, the officer came back, and led them into a room. In that room was a table was a few chairs, and on the other side was one chair with a man sitting in it.
  +
  +
The officer walked out of the room.
  +
  +
There was a camera on one side of the wall. The Doctor pointed some sort of tool at it. The tool
  +
lit up and buzzed, and the camera turned off. “Can’t have the police spying on us,” the Doctor
  +
remarked.
  +
  +
“What is that thing?” Judy asked.
  +
  +
The Doctor grinned and replied, “It’s my sonic screwdriver! It does all sorts of things. Opens
  +
doors, controls machines, turns off lights...and I made it myself!”
  +
  +
Judy nodded in approval. Then she turned to her dad. “Dad?”
  +
  +
Her dad, Jackson, looked up. He gasped. “Judy! You shouldn’t have come! It’s not safe!”
  +
  +
The Doctor moved closer to Jackson. “Why isn’t it safe? What’s here? We’re here to help!”
  +
  +
“They’re here!” Jackson whispered.
  +
  +
“Who’s they?” Yaz asked.
  +
  +
“Them! I don’t know what they look like. They make you forget. But they made me rob the
  +
bank, and they’ll make you do things too! Please, leave, Judy!” Jackson cried.
  +
  +
The Doctor thought for a moment. His description reminded her of something. Of someone.
  +
  +
“There it is!” Jackson abruptly screamed.
  +
  +
Suddenly, everyone felt tense.
  +
  +
“Why is my heart beating so fast?” Ryan wondered aloud.
  +
  +
Graham spoke up. “We’re standing in different spots then we were! But I don’t remember
  +
moving.”
  +
  +
“It’s like, something’s missing in my memory,” Yaz remarked.
  +
  +
Judy gulped. “Uh...guys? It looks like I wrote something on my hand.”
  +
  +
“What did you write?” the Doctor asked anxiously.
  +
  +
Judy shook her head in confusion. “The word ‘silence.’ Why would I write that?”
  +
  +
The Doctor gasped. “I must’ve told you to.” She put her head in her hands and shook her head,
  +
visibly distressed.
  +
  +
“Doctor, what’s wrong?” Yaz questioned.
  +
  +
The Doctor looked up, turned very serious, and said, “We’re all in very, very big trouble.”
  +
  +
==Chapter 4==
  +
“What do you mean ‘very big trouble?’ What does ‘silence’ mean?” Graham asked tentatively.
  +
  +
The Doctor paced around the room for a bit. Then she answered quickly, “The Silence are a race
  +
of aliens that make you forget them when you look away. They’ve tried to destroy me in the past. But I defeated them. Every last one of them are supposed to be dead. I guess a couple escaped. Oh, this is so very bad!”
  +
  +
Judy spoke up. “My question is, why are they making people rob banks?"
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled at Judy. “Good question. You’re good at this. Now, I'm not completely sure
  +
of the answer, but maybe they were trying to cause a distraction.”
  +
  +
“How are we going to see them without forgetting?” asked Yaz.
  +
  +
“Also a good question! I may be able to build something back at the Tardis. But I need to get
  +
there. I can’t summon the Tardis, unfortunately,” the Doctor lamented.
  +
  +
“I’ll drive you there. Gosh, I’ve been doing a lot of driving lately,” Judy reflected.
  +
  +
“Okay, you and I will go to the Tardis. Ryan, Yaz, Graham, stay here. Remember, if you see a
  +
Silent, draw a mark on your hand so you’ll know you saw one. Okay?” the Doctor said assertively.
  +
  +
Everyone nodded.
  +
  +
Judy turned to her dad. He was shaking. “I’ll be back, okay Dad?
  +
  +
“Please be careful, Judy! It’s not safe,” Jackson cried.
  +
  +
“I know. But it’s not safe anywhere. I'll be fine. The Doctor’s with me,” Judy assured.
  +
  +
“Just be careful. I love you.”
  +
  +
Judy smiled. “Love you too, Dad. C’mon, Doctor. Lets go.”
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
“I don’t want you to get pulled over, but we kind of need to go faster,” the Doctor said while Judy was driving.
  +
  +
Judy abruptly swerved into a back alley and said, “We’ll go faster if we take a shortcut through
  +
the back alleys.”
  +
  +
The Doctor nodded.
  +
  +
Suddenly, a figure appeared in the middle of the road. Judy screeched the car to a stop. “Oh,
  +
lord, that thing is ugly!” she cried.
  +
  +
It was a Silent. It resembled a skeleton with no mouth, big eyes, and it had three large fingers on each of its hands. It was wearing a suit and tie that looked wet.
  +
  +
“Judy,” the Doctor yelled, “do not look away! We’re going to get out of the car and talk to it.
  +
Can you get your camera up without looking down at your phone?”
  +
  +
“Probably,” Judy replied.
  +
  +
“Take a video so we remember,” the Doctor ordered.
  +
  +
Judy nodded. They got out of the car. Judy held up her phone, successfully starting a video
  +
without looking away from the alien.
  +
  +
The Doctor started to ask questions. “Why are you here? I thought you were defeated on the
  +
fields of Trenzalore. And also, on Earth, I annihilated you by making every human kill you
  +
unconsciously, remember that? How did you survive?”
  +
  +
“Who are you?” the Silent asked. His voice chilled Judy’s bones.
  +
  +
“You don’t remember me? I’m the Doctor. I regenerated. New body. Like it? I think I have a
  +
nicer chin,” the Doctor reflected.
  +
  +
“No! We thought that you, too, died on the fields of Trenzalore!” the Silent yelled.
  +
  +
“Nope. Timelords regenerate. Now, you didn’t answer my question. How are you here?”
  +
  +
“There is a small colony of the Silence that survived Trenzalore. We are in a ship above this
  +
planet, ready to invade.”
  +
  +
“Why?”
  +
  +
“We thought you were dead.”
  +
  +
The Doctor chuckled. “So you thought you were free to do anything, since you also thought
  +
there was no-one to stop you?”
  +
  +
The Silence said nothing.
  +
  +
The Doctor made a face and said, “Sorry. I'm here to stop you. Your plans are ruined. And
  +
nobody dies while you’re here, okay? Not this time. Not on my watch. Got it?”
  +
  +
The Silent craned his neck. “We’ll see about that, Doctor.” Then he disappeared.
  +
  +
Judy blinked.
  +
  +
The Doctor blinked.
  +
  +
"Doctor...what..." Judy stuttered. She looked around. She and the Doctor had got out of the car. How?
  +
  +
"Judy, I think we saw a Silent. I don't remember what he said, though. Gosh!" the Doctor remarked.
  +
  +
Judy looked down at her phone. Her eyes widened. "Look, Doctor, I took a video!"
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled. "Yes! Brilliant!"
  +
  +
They watched the video. It was shaky, but it helped Judy and the Doctor remember.
  +
  +
“Okay, let’s get to the Tardis as quick as we can,” the Doctor said after they remembered.
  +
  +
Judy nodded. They got back in the car and soon, they pulled up on the highway.
  +
  +
Judy winced as she recalled why she had come here the first time.
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled as they got out of the car, and caught sight of the Tardis. “Now,” she said, “I
  +
told you that the Tardis is bigger on the inside, right?”
  +
  +
“Yeah, but...I'm still not that sure what that means,” Judy hesitated.
  +
  +
The Doctor grinned and opened the door of the Tardis. “Well, friend, you’re about to find out.
  +
Come on in.”
  +
  +
She walked in. Judy slowly followed.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
Back at the police station, Jackson put his head in his hands and sighed.
  +
  +
“What’s wrong, Jackson?” Yaz asked.
  +
  +
“I’m worried! What if they get caught by one of those... things?” Jackson whimpered.
  +
  +
“Don’t worry. The Doctor will protect your daughter. They’ll be back soon,” Graham reassured.
  +
  +
Jackson looked up and cried, “I don’t even know who this ‘Doctor’ is! For all I know, she could
  +
be an agent for them! Doctor? Doctor who? Why does she hide her name?”
  +
  +
Ryan leaned forward, looked into Jackson’s eyes and said, “I don’t really know why she hides
  +
her name, but trust me mate, the Doctor will keep Judy safe. I trust the Doctor with my life. You should too.”
  +
  +
Jackson fell silent. Ryan spoke up again. “Is anyone else hungry?”
  +
  +
“Yeah. Very hungry, actually,” Yaz answered.
  +
  +
“I could go for some crisps,” Graham agreed.
  +
  +
Ryan stood up. “I’ll be right back.”
  +
  +
About a minute later, he came running back in, breathing heavily. Yaz stood up and ran over to
  +
him. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
  +
  +
“I...I don’t know, actually,” Ryan answered confusedly.
  +
  +
Yaz grabbed his hand and looked at it. She frowned. “You drew a black mark on your hand. You
  +
must’ve seen one of the Silence.”
  +
  +
Suddenly, they heard a man scream, “Please, NOO!”
  +
  +
“The policeman!” Ryan, Yaz, and Graham all yelled.
  +
  +
They ran out of the room. “Stay here!” Graham ordered Jackson.
  +
  +
They ran to the room where they heard the policeman. “Where is he?” Graham asked aloud.
  +
  +
Ryan knelt down. “Hey guys, check this out.”
  +
  +
There was a pile of dust on the floor. Yaz looked concerned as she said, “The Doctor didn’t tell
  +
us this, but do you think the Silence have the ability to disintegrate people?”
  +
  +
Ryan’s eyes widened, and he quickly drew his hand away from the dust.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled at Judy’s face as she walked into the Tardis.
  +
  +
“Oh...my...gosh!! Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my GOSH!! No way!” Judy screamed.
  +
  +
The Doctor laughed and put her hands on her hips.
  +
  +
Judy ran out of the Tardis, then ran back in. “This is AMAZING! This...this completely defies
  +
the laws of physics! Crikey!” she shouted.
  +
  +
The Doctor winked at her. “Bigger on the inside, hey?”
  +
  +
“WAY bigger on the inside. Like, HUMONGO on the inside!” Judy said excitedly. She looked
  +
around a bit more, then turned to the Doctor and remarked, “You really are an alien, aren’t you?”
  +
  +
The Doctor smirked. “Have you got a problem with that?”
  +
  +
Judy grinned. “No, not really. Actually, not at all!”
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled and said, “Good! You really are an official member of the fam!”
  +
  +
Judy looked down. She smiled softly and said, “Thank you. That means a lot.”
  +
  +
“No prob. Now, I must get to work. You can look around, but don’t touch anything. Please. If
  +
you press a certain button, it may hurtle us into the Time Vortex, we will spin out of control, and we will be erased from existence and be annihilated into tiny particles of space dust. Okay?” the Doctor asked in a cheery voice.
  +
  +
Judy’s eyes widened. “Okay then.”
  +
  +
==Chapter 5==
  +
This day was getting to be a bit crazy. Or this night, rather.
  +
  +
That’s what Judy thought as she watched the Doctor rummage through old parts. “I’m putting
  +
something together that will help us not forget the Silence,” the Doctor had said.
  +
  +
Judy yawned.
  +
  +
“Tired?” the Doctor asked.
  +
  +
“Yeah. How about you?”
  +
  +
“Nah. I rarely get tired when I'm in the middle of something. I’ll be exhausted by the end of this,
  +
though. But then I’ll get distracted before I go to sleep, and yeah...it’s a continuous cycle,” the Doctor answered quickly, while fiddling with a small data chip.
  +
  +
Judy walked around the Tardis console, taking it all in. She kept the conversation going. “Ever
  +
try counting sheep...or whatever your, um...particular race of aliens count?”
  +
  +
The Doctor looked up and made a face. “I tried counting subdural hematomas, but it ended up
  +
just grossing me out.”
  +
  +
Judy laughed. She had no idea what those were.
  +
  +
“Aha! Got it!” the Doctor suddenly shouted, scaring the life out of Judy. The Doctor held up a
  +
small, square-shaped data chip. “Right, so this will go on the side of your head. It connects to your brain, and it will send out waves of information that will block the psychic connection that the Silence have with your brain, thus stopping you from forgetting that they were there. Okay?”
  +
  +
Judy nodded. “Got it. Will it hurt to put it on?”
  +
  +
The Doctor shrugged. “No idea. Let’s find out together.”
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
Ryan paced the floor of the interrogation room.
  +
  +
Yaz spoke up. “If the Silence really can disintegrate, the stakes just got way higher.”
  +
  +
“I mean, we don’t really know until the Doctor tells us. Let’s not jump to conclusions,” said the
  +
ever so optimistic Graham.
  +
  +
“Graham, how else would that man have died?” Yaz argued.
  +
  +
“We don’t even know if that man is dead, alright? He could just be captured, or something!”
  +
Graham replied.
  +
  +
Yaz shook her head.
  +
  +
“Guys, let’s stop arguing about it, and wait till the Doctor and Judy come back, okay?” Ryan
  +
interrupted.
  +
  +
Everyone went silent. Then, all of a sudden, they heard a loud whirring noise. “The Tardis!” Yaz
  +
shouted. Indeed, it was the Tardis. It appeared in a corner of the room. Jackson’s eyes went wide.
  +
  +
Judy stumbled out of the Tardis and looked around, a bit dazed. “Oh my gosh. We really did
  +
move!”
  +
  +
“Of course we did!” the Doctor exclaimed as she followed Judy out. “Why the heck would I
  +
have a time machine if it didn’t work!”
  +
  +
Judy shrugged. “For decoration?”
  +
  +
Graham chuckled.
  +
  +
Yaz noticed that the Doctor and Judy had metal chips on the sides of their foreheads. “What are
  +
those—on the sides of your heads?” she asked.
  +
  +
The Doctor started passing the chips around. “These will help you not forget the Silence. Put
  +
them on,” she said hurriedly.
  +
  +
“It will hurt a little. Like an electric shock. But it will go away fast.” Judy explained.
  +
  +
Ryan, Yaz, Graham and Jackson all put them on. They let out a little yelp.
  +
  +
“There now, you’ll all be fine,” the Doctor assured.
  +
  +
Ryan perked up. “Doctor! We have a question. Can the Silence disintegrate people?”
  +
  +
The Doctor went quiet. Then she turned very serious and asked, “Why would you ask me that?”
  +
  +
Yaz explained. “We heard the policeman scream. So we ran to the room to find him. We didn’t
  +
find him, but we found a pile of dust on the floor.”
  +
  +
The Doctor put her head in her hands and cried, “No, no no!”
  +
  +
“Is it true? The disintegration thing?” Graham pushed.
  +
  +
The Doctor sighed. “Yes, it’s true. I had hoped we wouldn't get to this.”
  +
  +
“The poor man,” Jackson remarked.
  +
  +
“What’s our plan, boss?” Judy inquired of the Doctor.
  +
  +
“First off, please don’t call me ‘boss’. We’re a team. Second...I think our plan is to find out what
  +
the Silence is doing. Like, why are they having people rob banks? They don’t need money,” the Doctor quickly remarked.
  +
  +
“Doctor, shouldn’t we deal with the Silence that are in this building first?” Yaz insisted.
  +
  +
The Doctor slowly pointed at Yaz and said, “Good point, Yasmin Khan! We can’t leave Judy’s
  +
dad alone with the Silence.”
  +
  +
“I could come with you?” Jackson slowly asked.
  +
  +
“Dad, you’re in jail,” Judy pointed out. “We would be arrested if we were seen with you.”
  +
  +
Jackson sighed in exasperation.
  +
  +
The Doctor slowly spoke. “I can get you out and clear your name, but I can’t take you with us
  +
when we face the Silence. You’re just not traveling companion material.”
  +
  +
“Fine. But what about Judy? Does she come with you?” Jackson asked.
  +
  +
The Doctor nodded. “Yeah. Don’t worry. I'll keep an eye on her. I can protect her better than you ever could.”
  +
  +
Jackson’s eyes flashed with anger. “How dare you say that? I can protect my own daughter!”
  +
  +
“No, you can’t. You’ve let her get beat up by her mother, verbally and physically! Have you not
  +
noticed the bruise on her face?” the Doctor yelled, pointing at Judy.
  +
  +
Judy looked at the ground.
  +
  +
“Well yeah, but I thought she had fallen or something,” Jackson yelled back.
  +
  +
“Judy, tell your dad what happened,” the Doctor ordered.
  +
  +
“Doctor, is now the best time?” Judy asked.
  +
  +
“Now or never! Judy, tell him. NOW,” the Doctor said, using the strictest tone Judy had ever
  +
heard. She decided it would be best to obey.
  +
  +
“Mum beat me up for bringing friends to the house,” Judy said sheepishly.
  +
  +
“What the...love, you can bring whatever friends to the house that you want!” Jackson remarked.
  +
  +
“Try telling that to Mum,” Judy whispered. She choked back a sob.
  +
Graham spoke up. “This is wonderful and everything, well, maybe not wonderful, but uh... we
  +
really should go.”
  +
  +
The Doctor breathed air through her teeth. “Everyone, get in the Tardis. We’ll go drop Jackson
  +
off.”
  +
  +
Everyone slowly walked into the Tardis. Yaz slowly put her arm around Judy. Judy accepted the
  +
friendly affection gratefully.
  +
  +
==Chapter 6==
  +
The Tardis landed outside of Judy’s flat complex. Everyone walked out.
  +
  +
Jackson spoke to Judy. “Judy, I need to speak to you for a minute...alone.”
  +
  +
They walked off.
  +
  +
The Doctor talked to her fam while they waited for Judy. “I know what Judy was doing on the
  +
bridge when we found her.”
  +
  +
“What?” Yaz inquired.
  +
  +
“She was going to jump off...and commit suicide.”
  +
  +
Ryan, Yaz and Graham all gasped.
  +
  +
“Did she tell you this?” Ryan asked, with a startled look on his face.
  +
  +
“No, but trust me, I know that’s what she was doing,” the Doctor confirmed.
  +
  +
“We have to talk to her about it,” Yaz pushed.
  +
  +
“Not all at once. Judy won’t like that attention. One of us, alone, can talk to her at some point.”
  +
  +
They would have continued to talk about this, but Judy came back, and they fell silent.
  +
  +
The Doctor opened the Tardis doors. “Back inside!”
  +
  +
Once inside, Judy asked, “So, what’s the plan?”
  +
  +
The Doctor spoke. “We’ve got to deal with the Silence that are on the planet, then deal with the
  +
big ship above the Earth.”
  +
  +
“Why have they only been in West London? Why not, I don’t know, all of London?” Judy asked.
  +
  +
The Doctor pulled a small lever on the Tardis console, and something fell into her hand. She
  +
yelled, “Good question, Judy Davis! You get a biscuit!” She threw the thing in her hand to Judy, and Judy caught it. It was, indeed, a biscuit.
  +
  +
Judy smiled and said, “Why a biscuit?”
  +
  +
The Doctor made a face and answered, “Because I love biscuits, and I think everyone else
  +
should love them too!”
  +
  +
Judy laughed, and bit into the biscuit.
  +
  +
The Doctor turned serious again. “My question is, why did they choose certain people to rob the
  +
banks, and not others? I’m gonna look up your dad real quick, Judy.”
  +
  +
The Doctor spent a few minutes tapping on the Tardis screen, looking up files and records.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
On the Silence’s ship above the Earth, a Silent walked up to the Silent Leader, who was on the
  +
bridge. The Silent Leader spoke. “Do we have our next target?”
  +
  +
“Yes, Leader,” the Silent answered.
  +
  +
“Her name?”
  +
  +
“Judith Davis.”
  +
  +
The Silent Leader nodded in approval. “We must show the Doctor that we remember. We will
  +
remember our brothers who were lost. We must remind the Doctor of the horrible murder that the humans did.”
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
“Aha! I’ve got it!” the Doctor yelled, scaring the life out of everyone. “Judy, your father is a
  +
direct descendant of Canton Everett Delaware III, who helped me stop the Silent invasion in the time of President Nixon! I guess he had a wife at some point. He was in the FBI for a while, but they kicked him out.”
  +
  +
“Why?” Graham asked.
  +
  +
“For wanting to marry...not a woman. Ulch. Well, anyways, this must mean that all the robbers
  +
are related to people who helped me stop the first Silent invasion! Hold on a minute...okay, yes, I just did a quick search on all the robbers’ ancestors...one moment...”
  +
  +
For a few moments, the only sound you could hear was the furious tapping of the Doctor’s
  +
fingers on the Tardis screen. She smiled and said, “Yes! There it is! I was right! The robbers are all related to people that stopped the Silent invasion! And they all live in West London! So there!” In a rare burst of emotion, the Doctor violently hit the Tardis screen, and it spun around the console.
  +
  +
“I still don’t understand,” Ryan said. “Why those specific people?”
  +
  +
“Because...because...ohh!” The Doctor gasped.
  +
  +
“What is it, Doc?” Graham asked.
  +
  +
“They must be survivors! The Silence, that we’re facing right now, they didn’t get killed! So
  +
they’re showing me that they remember what the humans did to them...by giving me clues to follow! Oh, I am brilliant,” the Doctor replied, drifting into her own thoughts.
  +
  +
“It might help us figure out who they’re targeting next, right?” Yaz asked.
  +
  +
“Absolutely!” the Doctor cried.
  +
  +
“I might know who it could be,” Judy said shyly.
  +
  +
Everyone looked at her. She continued. “If my dad’s related to that Canton guy, then that means I am too. Shouldn’t I be next on the list?”
  +
  +
Everyone fell silent. Then the Doctor spoke. “That um...that actually makes sense. Which means
  +
we can’t let you out of our sight. The control stops here. I won’t let you be controlled.”
  +
  +
Judy smiled. “I trust you.”
  +
  +
The Doctor nodded. “Good.”
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
Back on the Silence’s ship, the Silent Leader and a few other Silents were staring at live footage,
  +
on a screen, of Judy. Suddenly, they extended their hands towards the screen and opened their mouths.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
“So, I guess we have to find the Silence before they get to Judy,” Ryan hypothesized.
  +
  +
“Yeah, and...” the Doctor started. But at that moment, Judy suddenly covered her ears and
  +
yelled, “Ahh! Too late! OW!”
  +
  +
The Doctor ran over to Judy, sonic screwdriver in hand. “Oh, no you don’t!” she cried.
  +
  +
A horrible ringing filled Judy's ears. She fell backwards, gripping the Tardis console.
  +
  +
“Judy,” the Doctor yelled, “stay with us! Don’t let them take over you! Fight it!”
  +
  +
The Doctor sonic-ed Judy’s head, trying to fight the telepathic signal. But it was too late.
  +
  +
Judy slowly looked up at the Doctor. Her eyes were completely red. She smiled evilly. “Hello,
  +
Doctor,” she said, in a low voice.
  +
  +
“Judy…?” the Doctor stammered.
  +
  +
Judy shook her head. “No. I am the Silent Leader. I am using a telepathic signal to communicate
  +
through this human’s body.”
  +
  +
“Let her go!” the Doctor yelled angrily.
  +
  +
“No. Just no.”
  +
  +
The Doctor clenched her teeth. “I figured out your pattern. Clever.”
  +
  +
“I am a survivor of the war that the humans waged on us,” the Silent Leader admitted. “I still
  +
blame you.”
  +
  +
The Doctor closed her eyes and had a flashback. She could hear the Silent’s voice, “You should
  +
kill us all on SIGHT.” Then she could hear the gunshots and yells of humans killing the Silence, on the same day that the first moon landing occurred,
  +
  +
The Doctor came back to the present. She said, “You deserved it. You went too far. You needed
  +
to be killed.”
  +
  +
The Silent Leader laughed. It was disturbing to hear Judy laugh like that. “Yet you didn’t kill a
  +
single one of us. You made the humans do the dirty work for you!”
  +
  +
The Doctor frowned. “I was a different person back then.”
  +
  +
“Yeah. Totally different. Have you seen your own chin? It was madness!” the Silent Leader
  +
joked.
  +
  +
“I didn’t know the Silence could make smart alack comments,” the Doctor said cautiously.
  +
  +
The Silent Leader made a confused face, then smiled. “I’m rooting around in this human’s brain,
  +
drawing aspects of her personality and implementing it into our conversation. She’s fighting. She’s like a kicking and screaming child. Wow. I like her. I think I’ll keep her.”
  +
  +
Ryan suddenly spoke up, and screamed, “No you won’t! Get out of her! Right now, or else!”
  +
  +
The Silent Leader pointed at Ryan. “You, Ryan, she barely knows you, and she has feelings for
  +
you already. Humans are so gross.”
  +
  +
The Doctor suddenly smiled and said, “Thanks for talking, ‘cause I just tuned my screwdriver to
  +
a frequency that will shut off the telepathic connection you have with Judy’s body. Bye!”
  +
  +
The Doctor pointed her sonic screwdriver at Judy and turned it on. A loud beeping sound filled
  +
the Tardis, causing everyone to cover their ears.
  +
  +
Judy fell to the ground.
  +
  +
The Doctor bent over Judy. “Judy?” she said carefully.
  +
  +
“Doctor...” Judy whispered. Then she promptly passed out.
  +
  +
==Chapter 7==
  +
Judy’s head swirled. She could hear talking, but she wasn’t sure who it was. She slowly tried to
  +
open her eyes. Her head ached horribly. She could hear the Doctor’s sharp Yorkshire accent pierce through her ears, but Judy couldn’t tell what she was saying. Judy tried to get a grip on her surroundings. She was lying on the floor of the Tardis, close to the door, looking out on the console.
  +
  +
She was covered in a blanket...no, it wasn’t a blanket, Judy realized...it was the Doctor’s coat. Judy smiled. Then she groaned. Her head did a somersault, as she tried to get up.
  +
The Doctor noticed her. She ran towards Judy and knelt down. “How are you feeling?” she
  +
asked hurriedly.
  +
  +
“A bit woozy. Here, here’s your coat. Thanks for letting me use it. I don’t need it anymore,”
  +
Judy replied.
  +
  +
The Doctor smiled and took the coat. “No problem. Do you like my coat?”
  +
  +
“It smells a bit interesting. When was the last time you washed it?” Judy questioned.
  +
  +
The Doctor looked at Judy with a confused face and said, “Uh...washed?”
  +
  +
Judy’s eyes widened. She groaned again and held her head.
  +
  +
Ryan walked over. He held out his hand. “Here, I’ll help you get up.”
  +
  +
The Doctor moved over. Judy grabbed his hand and tried to pull herself up. Ryan took hold of
  +
her arm to steady her. Judy got on her feet. “Whoa,” she said. Her feet failed her and Ryan caught her in his arms. “Got ya,” he said.
  +
  +
Judy looked into Ryan’s eyes and slowly laughed. He flashed his big white teeth into a smile.
  +
  +
Ryan steadied Judy onto her feet again. This time, she stood.
  +
  +
“Well bravo, you two,” Graham randomly said.
  +
  +
“Graham!” Yaz chastised.
  +
  +
Judy spoke. “Okay, um...what exactly happened to me?”
  +
  +
The Doctor explained. “The Silent Leader used a telepathic signal to take over your body. But I
  +
was able to repel the signal. It took a lot out of you.”
  +
  +
Judy nodded. Ryan still had his hand on her back. He could probably let go, yet she didn’t tell
  +
him too.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
Jackson opened the door of his flat. It was quiet, and dark. He looked at the time. 5:30. In the
  +
morning.
  +
  +
He realized that he had been up all night. So had Judy and her weird new friends.
  +
  +
The Doctor. Jackson still wondered who that mysterious woman was. Why had she not said her
  +
name? Was she really a doctor? And why in the world had he trusted his daughter with those people?
  +
  +
Jackson noticed that his older daughter, Jill, was sitting on the couch, looking at her phone.
  +
When she saw him, she gasped, stood up and whispered, “Dad? Shouldn’t you be in...”
  +
  +
“Jail? Yeah, I know,” Jackson interrupted. “We’ll deal with that later. Listen, why are you up this
  +
early?”
  +
  +
“I...I’ve been up almost all night, waiting for Judy. Dad, I was about to call the police! Do you
  +
know where she is?” Jill asked.
  +
  +
“She’s in very capable hands, trust me.” ''I think.'' ''I hope that Doctor is capable.'' “Where’s your
  +
mother? Isn’t she worried about Judy, too?” Jackson inquired.
  +
  +
Jill frowned. “She’s sleeping. She doesn’t seem to care that Judy’s gone. Dad, what’s that on your face?” She pointed to the data chip on Jackson’s forehead.
  +
  +
“That doesn’t matter right now. Now Jill...oh...oh my...”
  +
  +
Jackson looked, and there was a Silent right behind his daughter.
  +
  +
“What is it?” Jill questioned.
  +
  +
“Sweetie, there’s something behind you, but listen: do not scream when you look at it. We don’t
  +
want to wake your mother. It’s a Silent, and when you look at it, do not look away, because it makes you forget when you do. That’s why I’m wearing this chip,” Jackson explained.
  +
  +
Jill made a confused face and slowly turned to face the Silent. She promptly slapped her
  +
hand over her mouth to prevent herself from screaming.
  +
  +
Jackson stayed calm. “What do you want?” he asked the Silent.
  +
  +
"Your daughter,” the Silent said quickly. Before Jackson even realized what was happening, the
  +
Silent had put his hand on Jill’s shoulder, and teleported them both away.
  +
  +
“No!” Jackson cried. He cursed under his breath. For a moment he didn’t know what to do. Then
  +
he saw Jill’s phone on the floor. He picked it up and dialed Judy.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
“Soo,” the Doctor said, while pressing random buttons on the Tardis console, “I guess we need
  +
to figure out what to do next. Maybe it’s time to tackle the big ship in the sky.”
  +
  +
Everyone nodded. Then, the ring of a cell phone echoed through the Tardis.
  +
Judy reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. “It’s my sister.” She answered it.
  +
  +
“Jill?”
  +
  +
“No. It’s Dad.”
  +
  +
“Dad, why are you using Jill’s phone?”
  +
  +
“Well, first of all,” Jackson explained, “they took away my phone when I got in prison. Second
  +
of all, a Silent came to the house and kidnapped your sister!”
  +
  +
Judy’s eyes widened. “Oh my gosh! Where did they take her?”
  +
  +
“I don’t know. It just came out of nowhere and teleported her away, before I could even stop
  +
them!”
  +
  +
Judy took a hold of her feelings. “Okay, Dad, don’t worry. The Doctor will find her. I’ll call you
  +
if anything happens.”
  +
  +
“Be careful, please, Judy,” Jackson pleaded.
  +
  +
“I will. Bye.” Judy hung up and sighed.
  +
  +
“What’s going on?” Yaz asked.
  +
  +
“A Silent showed up at my flat, and kidnapped my sister. Doctor, we have to find her!” Judy
  +
said.
  +
  +
“Oh my goodness. Yes, of course! Now, fam, where do you think she could be?” the Doctor
  +
questioned.
  +
  +
Graham spoke up. “What about the police station? There were some Silents still there when we
  +
left it.”
  +
  +
The Doctor pointed to Graham and yelled, “Yes! Of course! You are a genius, Graham! Plugging in the coordinates now!”
  +
  +
==Chapter 8<nowiki/>==
  +
The Tardis slowly materialized in the front part of the police station. Judy walked out, a bit
  +
dizzy, and said, “I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that.”
  +
  +
Everyone else walked out behind her. “You’ll have to get used to it,” the Doctor said. “You’ll be
  +
doing a lot more of it in the future.”
  +
  +
“What do you mean?” Judy asked.
  +
  +
The Doctor walked over to Judy and looked down into her eyes. “You’re a part of the fam now,
  +
Judy. You’re going to travel with us. I’m not going to let you be abused by your mother anymore.”
  +
  +
Judy looked up at the Doctor, and quickly wrapped her arms around her. The Doctor smiled and
  +
returned the hug.
  +
  +
“Oh my gosh,” Judy said breathlessly, “why am I hugging you? I never hug people?”
  +
  +
“You need it,” the Doctor replied. “Listen, as much as I would love to stand here hugging you all
  +
day, we have to find your sister, Judy.”
  +
  +
Judy held on for moment, then let go. She quickly wiped away a tear that she thought no-one
  +
saw.
  +
  +
The Doctor pointed her sonic screwdriver at random places and said, “Your sister is here, Judy,
  +
I’m sure of it. Okay, fam: this is a big police station, so I think we’ll split up. Ryan and Judy, you go one way; Yaz and Graham, you go another, and I’ll go alone. If any of you finds Judy’s sister, stop and hide, alert me first, and I’ll tell everyone else. Don’t face the Silence without me, got it?”
  +
  +
“Got it,” everyone said in unison.
  +
  +
Before they split up, Graham leaned over to Ryan, gave him a fist bump, and said, “Good luck,
  +
son.”
  +
  +
“You too, Grandad,” Ryan replied.
  +
  +
Judy frowned and leaned over to Ryan, and whispered in his ear, “Graham’s your grandfather?”
  +
  +
Ryan nodded. “Yeah, he was my gran’s second husband. He’s cool.”
  +
  +
Judy nodded and smiled.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
Ryan and Judy ran down corridors with rooms, looking in the window of every one of the doors.
  +
They ran down a hallway of numbered rooms. Judy stopped in front of a closed door. She looked through the window. She gasped and whispered, “Ryan, look!”
  +
  +
Ryan looked through the window. There were many Silents in the room, who were holding
  +
Judy’s sister. She looked terrified.
  +
  +
Ryan took charge. “Sit down, Judy. I’ll text the Doctor.”
  +
  +
Ryan tapped on his phone for a few moments. “Okay, she’s alerting the others and will be here
  +
in a few minutes.”
  +
  +
They sat in silence for a moment. Then Ryan spoke. “Judy, the Doctor figured out what you
  +
were doing on that railing when we found you. I think we need to talk about it.”
  +
  +
“Right now?” Judy inquired.
  +
  +
“Yeah. Were you about to commit suicide?” Ryan asked.
  +
  +
Judy was quiet for a second. Then she nodded.
  +
  +
Ryan shook his head. “Judy, you have your whole life ahead of you. You can’t cut it short! There
  +
are people who care about you!”
  +
  +
“I see that now, Ryan. Thanks to the Doctor. Thanks to you,” Judy said gratefully.
  +
  +
“You know, Judy,” Ryan said slowly, “I’ve only known you for about nine hours, but I feel like
  +
I’ve known you my whole life.”
  +
  +
“Yeah, same here,” Judy whispered.
  +
  +
They looked into each other’s eyes. Ryan slowly dipped his head closer to Judy’s. Judy closed
  +
her eyes as he slowly kissed her.
  +
  +
“Don’t you think it’s a bit early for that?” a voice interrupted. Judy and Ryan sprung away from
  +
each other and looked up. It was Graham. Yaz was standing next to him, a surprised expression on her face.
  +
  +
Ryan and Judy simultaneously stood up. “Where’s the Doctor?” Ryan asked.
  +
  +
“I don’t know...oh, there she is!” Graham exclaimed, pointing to the end of the hall.
  +
  +
The Doctor was running to them, sonic screwdriver in hand, her long coat flowing behind her.
  +
The wind from her running swept her hair to the side, and revealed earrings on her ear.
  +
  +
In that moment, Judy suddenly had the thought that the Doctor was beautiful. In so many ways.
  +
  +
She skidded to a stop. “Which room is it?” she asked hurriedly.
  +
  +
Judy pointed to the room. The Doctor looked at the room number and whispered, “Well, that’s
  +
unsettling.”
  +
  +
“What?” Yaz asked.
  +
  +
“The room number is thirteen.”
  +
  +
“So? What does that have to do with anything?” Judy questioned.
  +
  +
The Doctor shook her head violently. “It’s nothing. Nothing. Okay, fam, you ready to go in?”
  +
  +
She motioned towards the door. Everyone nodded. The Doctor continued. “Listen, guys, whatever happens, I appreciate you all, and good luck. Also, let me do the talking, ‘kay?”
  +
  +
Once again, everyone nodded. The Doctor grinned cheekily and opened the door.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
The Doctor led the way into the room. All the Silents noticed her, and stared.
  +
  +
“JUDY!” Jill screamed.
  +
  +
“Jill,” Judy said calmly, “calm down. I’ll get you out of this. Don’t worry.”
  +
  +
Jill nodded, still obviously terrified.
  +
  +
“Let her go,” the Doctor ordered the Silence. “This fight is between you and me.”
  +
  +
A Silent walked up and argued, “No! The humans have been killing us for years! We have
  +
reason to fight them too.”
  +
  +
Another Silent walked up. “There is one good thing about humans. They work hard. We need
  +
more humans to work for us.”
  +
  +
“Why?” the Doctor inquired.
  +
  +
“We need their help. We are working on something on our ship.”
  +
  +
“What are you working on?”
  +
  +
The Silent tilted his head. “Why would we tell you?”
  +
  +
The Doctor frowned. “Well, you’re not taking Jill.”
  +
  +
The other Silent spoke. “We don’t want her. She is too weak. We need two of your friends. In
  +
particular, Judith Davis, who shows great potential in her brain, and Ryan Sinclair, who is not only smart but strong in his body.”
  +
  +
The Doctor suddenly turned very angry, and gritted her teeth. “You will not lay a hand on them,
  +
you monster. I won’t let you take them.”
  +
  +
“Then Jill Davis will die,” the Silent said promptly. A Silent close to Ashley raised his hand
  +
as if he would strike her.
  +
  +
Judy jumped forward. “No!” she cried. “Stop! I’ll go willingly, just please, don’t kill her!”
  +
  +
Ryan stepped close to Judy. “I’ll go, too.”
  +
  +
“No, no! Don’t go!” the Doctor pleaded.
  +
  +
“Ryan!” Yaz chastised.
  +
  +
“Now, think about this for a moment. They’ll kill you,” Graham said.
  +
  +
Judy turned to face them. “Listen, they won’t kill us. They’re gonna make us work.” Judy
  +
looked at the Doctor and lowered her voice. “Doctor, just get in the Tardis and come get us. You can go anywhere. We’ll be fine.”
  +
  +
The Doctor nodded. “Okay. I’ll be there in five minutes, I promise. Oh Judy!” The Doctor
  +
wrapped her arms around Judy.
  +
  +
Judy smiled. “Two hugs in one day, goodness Doctor, that’s a record!” She let go of the Doctor.
  +
  +
“You’ll have to make that three hugs,” Yaz spoke up. She hugged Judy. Judy laughed.
  +
  +
Judy went back to stand next to Ryan. They faced the Silence.
  +
  +
“Let Jill go,” Ryan said, “and then you can take us.”
  +
  +
The Silent forcefully pushed Jill away.
  +
  +
“Judy,” Jill pleaded, “don’t go!” Judy surprised Jill by simply winking at her.
  +
  +
What occurred next happened very fast for everyone. Ryan’s hand was in Judy’s, two Silents
  +
grabbed them, and they were gone.
  +
  +
  +
...
  +
  +
And that’s the story of how I, Judy Davis, will never see my Doctor again.
  +
  +
They took us to their ship, which is more like a prison camp. They make us build stuff. We
  +
don’t even know what it is.
  +
  +
Ryan and I have been here for three months, and we have given up all hope of the Doctor
  +
coming for us.
  +
  +
Apparently for years the Silence have been collecting people in groups of two and bringing them
  +
to the ship. They keep track of the humans who work for them, they stamp a mark, like a tattoo, on our necks. To save space, Ryan and I share the same room, with my bed on one side, and his on the other.
  +
  +
The food they bring us is terrible, but we need our strength.
  +
  +
Every night I look out the window and dream that I can hear the strange sound of the Tardis in
  +
my bedroom, and the Doctor’s cheery voice telling me that she has come to rescue us. But it never comes. And I think it never will.
  +
  +
==Epilogue==
  +
Judy sat in her bed, listening to the soft purr of Ryan’s snore across the room.
  +
  +
Then she heard it.
  +
  +
The Tardis.
  +
  +
“Ryan, wake up!” Judy yelled.
  +
  +
He snapped to attention. He grinned and jumped out of bed when he heard the noise.
  +
  +
The Tardis landed.
  +
  +
Two people walked out. Neither of which Ryan nor Judy recognized.
  +
  +
There was a man and a woman. The woman was short, had dark brown hair in a ponytail, and
  +
was wearing a miniskirt. The man was old, with wild gray hair, crazy eyebrows, and was wearing a simple suit with no tie.
  +
  +
Judy was confused. “Who are you? Where’s the Doctor?”
  +
  +
“Well,” the man said, with a strong Scottish accent, “I believe that I am the Doctor.”

This is my first completed novel, so there may be some plot holes. If you have any suggestions on how to fix them, let me know. Hope you enjoy!

Prologue

Have you ever felt like you were in a hole, and couldn't get out? Have you felt like you were so alone, and so sad, and you felt like you were never going to be happy again? And then, suddenly, the most amazing person you've ever met comes into your life (quite by accident), and saves you from yourself? For some people that person is a family member, a really good friend, or a lover.

For me it was the Doctor.

And now I'm never going to see her again.

Chapter 1

Seventeen-year-old Judy Davis looked out over the motorway, observing the water below.

Someone walked out of the police box. It was a woman, with blonde hair, and she wore the most absurd, longest coat that Judy had ever seen. "Oi, why did the Tardis take us here?" the woman asked out loud in a strong Yorkshire accent.

Behind her, three more people walked out of the box. There was another woman, younger, with dark brown eyes and hair, tan skin, and a brown leather jacket. There was an older man with gray hair and simple clothes. Finally, out walked a young man with dark skin, a black jacket, and when Judy looked into his eyes she just...melted.

All of a sudden, Judy realized what she was doing. She tried to get down, but the woman with the long coat noticed her and shouted, "Hey! You there! What are you doing?"

Judy scrambled off the rail. "Um...nothing. Who are you?"

The woman quickly introduced herself and the others. "I'm the Doctor, and this is Ryan, Yaz, and Graham. What's your name?"

Judy struggled to answer. "Uh...Judith Davis. My friends call me Judy. But how'd you get here? How did that police box...just...appear?"

The Doctor spoke in a cheery voice, like she expected Judy to understand what she was telling her. "That's my Tardis. It travels through time and space. It brought us here because someone needed help, I guess. You don't mind me asking, where are we exactly, and what year is it?"

"You're crazy weird. But we're in West London, 2020."

Nods of approval resounded among the group.

"Nice place," Yaz said.

"Glad we're in modern times," Graham remarked.

Judy looked at the young man, Ryan. He didn't say anything, just looked at Judy and nodded. Judy slowly smiled for the first time since they met her. Ryan did nothing back.

Oh no, Yaz thought, She thinks Ryan's cute.

"So," the Doctor said, "seen anything suspicious lately? My ship said there was someone in trouble. Are you okay?"

Judy nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine. Mostly."

"What do you mean, 'mostly'? Tell us if there's something wrong!" Yaz exclaimed.

"I literally just met you guys less than five minutes ago! I don't know you!" Judy cried out.

"Please, you have to trust us. Whatever is going on, we're here to help. I'm here to help. We won't let you down, I promise," the Doctor pleaded.

Judy looked into the Doctor's eyes, and instantly knew she could trust her. "Um...this might be nothing, but...some weird crimes have been going on lately. The robbers, they rob a bank, they get caught, taken to jail, whatever. But, as soon as they get to jail, they forget that they ever robbed anything. They beg for innocence, and they had no idea that they ever did anything bad."

"That's weird. And it's just in West London?" the Doctor asked.

Judy nodded. Then she sighed and said, "Thing is, one of those robbers happened to be my dad."

Yaz's eyes widened. Graham shook his head. The Doctor's face was full of compassion as she said, "I'm so sorry. I'll figure this out."

"What's your dad like? Is he a good dad?" Ryan asked suddenly.

He speaks, Judy thought. She stuttered and said, "He's an amazing dad. Most of the time. He's the only one I really trust in my family. He never would have robbed a bank. But now he's stuck in jail with no memory of it."

"I need more info on the robberies. Do you have a computer?" the Doctor asked Judy.

"Yeah, back at my flat," Judy answered.

"Let's go then!" the Doctor exclaimed excitedly.

"Got a car?" Yaz asked.

Judy pointed to a small car next to them and said, "My sister's car. She's out with her boyfriend tonight, no telling when she'll be back. She won't even miss it."

Yaz narrowed her eyes. "How old are you?"

"Seventeen," Judy answered shyly.

"You're too young to drive!" Yaz exclaimed.

"I have my junior's license!" Judy retorted.

"I'm a police officer, you know. I could..." Yaz started. But the Doctor interrupted her with a harsh, "Not now, Yaz."

Yaz looked at the ground and nodded.

They all got in the car, the Doctor riding shotgun with Judy.

Chapter 2

"How long till we get to your flat?" Graham asked Judy once they were on the road.

"Maybe fifteen, twenty minutes?" Judy estimated. Graham nodded.

"This is probably not a good time, but what were you doing back there, standing on that railing?" Ryan asked Judy.

Judy gripped the steering wheel.

"That is a good question. Why were you staring at the water, when it's dark outside?" Yaz pushed.

"I don't want to talk about it," Judy muttered under her breath.

"Please, tell me why. I want to help," the Doctor said, with compassion in her voice.

"Stop pushing!" Judy yelled in anger. "I don't know you well enough to answer questions like that! I have trust issues, okay? So shut up, all of you!" She kicked the side of the car door to illustrate her point.

"Red light, sweetheart," Graham said calmly, but firmly.

Judy slammed the brakes of the car, and turned to face the others. "I can kick you out of this car at any moment! ANY MOMENT! So shut up about what I was doing on that motorway, or else!"

"Green light, sweetheart," Graham said kindly.

"Quit telling me how to drive, Graham!" Judy yelled.

There was silence for the rest of the car ride.

Soon they pulled up to an old complex of flats. They got out of the car. "Now," Judy said, "if we're lucky, my mum won't be home."

"Now what is that supposed to mean?" Yaz asked skeptically.

"My mum will ruin everything. Trust me," Judy assured.

They walked up a couple of flights of stairs, and arrived at a door, which Judy unlocked and opened. They walked in, and Judy turned the light on. It was kind of old, with no decorations, except a few family photos on the wall. In the light, the Doctor could see what Judy looked like a little better.

Judy was almost average height for her age, a little on the short side. She had short, dark curly hair that needed to be brushed. She wore a ratty, blue t-shirt with a black leather jacket, and dark, ripped-up jeans. Unlike most her age, Judy didn't wear make-up, but the Doctor didn't think that she needed it. Judy had a well-shaped face, but when the Doctor looked into her eyes, she had to look away because they were so full of sadness and anger. The Doctor instantly made a promise that someday, she would find out why this girl was so hurt.

Judy invited them to sit down, and ran to find her computer. After Judy left, the Doctor turned to her fam. "What do you think of her?"

"I think she's really sad about something, but won't tell anyone what it is," Graham speculated.

"I want to know what she was doing on that motorway," Yaz said.

"I think she's kinda pretty," Ryan added. Everyone looked at him.

Yaz giggled.

"What?" Ryan demanded. The Doctor gave him a warm smile. Judy re-entered the room, and all conversation stopped.

She handed the computer to the Doctor, and said, "I've got a story up on when my dad robbed the bank."

The Doctor played the video that was on the site. A female news reporter was speaking. "Today, another robbery happened at the London bank. It is the fifth robbery that has occurred in a matter of three weeks. This time, an IT consultant named Jackson Davis committed the robbery, at midnight, on Saturday. Here is footage of Davis being detained."

It cut to a video of a man being roughed by the police, who were trying to put him in a car. The man was, apparently, Judy's dad. Just as they were about to put him in the car, the Doctor paused the video and pointed at Davis's neck. "Hey Judy," she asked, "does your dad have a tattoo?"

Judy came over and looked. It was hard to tell what is was, but on her dad's neck, there seemed to be a round symbol of some sort. Judy shook her head. "I've never seen that on him. He must've gotten it before the robbery."

The Doctor frowned and played the video again. It cut back to the news reporter. "But once again," the news reporter began, "just like the other robberies, once Davis was brought to jail, he claimed he had no memory of the robbery. Here is footage. It may be disturbing."

The video cut to when the police arrived at the jail. They were pulling Davis, who was in handcuffs. Davis was yelling, "Let me go! I didn't do anything! I swear! I don't remember! I...I was supposed to take my daughter to dinner hours ago! Judy! JUDY!"

The Doctor paused the video again. Judy was looking at the ground. The Doctor pointed at the screen and exclaimed, "Look! The tattoo's gone!"

Everyone came over and looked. "That's odd," Yaz remarked.

"Where did it go?" Ryan wondered.

"I think this is way more serious than a couple of bank robberies," the Doctor declared.

"Aliens?" Graham questioned.

"Possibly," the Doctor replied.

"What? Aliens? Okay, who are you guys? You've told me your names, but I don't know what you do, why are you here..." Judy burst out.

The Doctor faced Judy. "Okay. I am a Timelord from the planet Galifrey who travels through time and space.

Everyone nodded.

"It's true, but I personally wouldn't have told you all that at once. Great job at overloading the kid's brain, Doc," Graham sighed. The Doctor smiled and nodded.

"So you're an alien?" Judy asked the Doctor.

"To you, yes. To me, all of you are aliens," the Doctor answered promptly.

Judy slowly leaned back in her chair, clearly overwhelmed. Then, suddenly, the door unlocked and was opened. A woman who had a striking resemblance to Judy walked in.

"Hello, Judy's mum!" the Doctor squealed.

"Doctor!" Ryan, Yaz, and Graham all scolded. The Doctor didn't even seem to notice.

"Hi, Mum. Guys, this is Anna, my mother," Judy said sheepishly. The way she said "mother" didn't have much affection in it.

"Who the heck are these guys?" Anna asked angrily.

"Um..." Judy didn't know how to answer.

So the Doctor put down Judy's computer, stood up, and waved a piece of paper in Anna's face. Anna read it and remarked, "Scotland Yard?! What are you doing here?"

"Here to investigate your husband's arrest. We want to find out why he forgot what he did. My name is the Doctor, and this is Ryan, Yaz, and Graham. We're also friends of Judy! Right, Judy?"

"New friends," Judy hesitated.

"Well, get out! We don't need your help," Anna told the Doctor rudely.

"Oh, I think you do," Graham said.

"He's right, Mum. We do need help," Judy spoke up.

Anna turned to her daughter and snapped, "No we don't, Judith! Now, we need to talk. What have I told you about bringing friends to the house? C'mon." She grabbed Judy by the shoulder started to drag her to one of the rooms.

Judy winced as her mother's sharp nails pierced her skin. She turned to her friends-yes, they were her friends now-and said, "I'll be right back."

Anna pushed Judy into the room, and for the next couple of minutes, all the Doctor, Ryan, Yaz and Graham could hear was yelling and cursing from Judy's mum. Then, they heard a THWACK and a short yelp from Judy. She was pushed out of the room, and the door slammed in her face. She was rubbing her jaw.

"What happened?" Ryan asked. Judy didn't answer. She ran into the bathroom and slammed the door. "Okay, then," Ryan whispered.

Yaz frowned. "I think her mum slapped her." Ryan's eyes widened. Just then, Judy walked out, holding a wet washcloth to her face.

"You okay, love?" Graham asked, with compassion in his voice.

"Yeah, I guess. My mum sure knows how to plant a nice punch!" Judy chuckled. She removed the washcloth and let everyone see. A chorus of gasps went around the room.

“Goodness gracious Judy, that is child abuse!” Yaz remarked

Judy shrugged. “It’s always worse when Dad’s not around. I’ve been thrown into a wall before. I'll be fine.”

The Doctor stood up. “I will not tolerate this! Judy, come on. You’re part of the fam now.”

“Fam?” Judy questioned.

“It’s what she calls us. It’s a dumb name, I know,” Ryan said.

Judy smiled, then winced. She asked the Doctor, “Where are we going?”

“To meet your dad,” the Doctor answered. “I can get access.” She held up the piece of paper she had showed Judy’s mum. “Psychic paper. It makes people see anything I want them to see. Sometimes it makes them see what they want to see. Either way, it’ll get us in.”

They walked out of the flat. Immediately they were greeted by a woman who looked to be in her early twenties. Judy waved and said, “Hey, Jill! Guys, this is my older sister, Jill. Jill, this is Yaz, Ryan, Graham, and the Doctor.”

“Friends? Finally. What are you covering on your face, Judy,” Jill asked.

“Nothing,” Judy answered shyly.

In one swift move, Jill removed Judy’s hand from her face and pulled it down. Jill's eyes went wide. “That’s quite a shiner. Did Mum...” Judy nodded. “Judy...I’m so sorry...if there’s anything I can do…” she stuttered.

Judy perked up. “Let me borrow your car without asking you why?”

Jill sighed. “Fine. As long as it’s not a party, or for you running away, go away. I swear, Judy, one of these days, you’re going to almost kill yourself.”

Judy looked at the ground.

“Don’t speak those words over her!” Yaz snapped.

“It’s okay. It’s true,” Judy mumbled.

The Doctor narrowed her eyes at Judy. Suddenly, in that moment, she realized why Judy had been standing on the highway railing. It made the Doctor have even more compassion for the girl.

Chapter 3

About half an hour later, they pulled up at the jail and got out of the car. They walked to the door, the Doctor leading the way. The security guard stopped them, but the Doctor showed him her psychic paper, and he promptly opened the door for them.

The front desk had a policeman sitting at it. His eyes widened at the sight of the Doctor and her gang. “Who the heck are you guys?” he asked.

The Doctor showed him her paper. “Scotland Yard. These people are with me. They’re my fam. Heh heh.” Yaz gave the Doctor a death stare. The Doctor smiled and went on. “We’re here to interrogate Jackson Davis, the man who was arrested for robbery.”

The policeman scoffed. “I wasn’t informed of an interrogation!”

“And who said you needed to be informed of it? Maybe I currently hold a rank higher than you, and maybe if you don’t let us in, I can demote you to caretaker,” the Doctor snapped.

“Ooh. Sweet burn,” Ryan whispered. Judy chuckled.

The officer blinked twice and stood up. “Right this way, ma’am.” But he stopped Judy. “How old are you?”

“Seventeen,” Judy answered quickly.

“Sorry, missy. you’re too young. Wait here,” the officer ordered.

Judy’s eyebrows raised. Before the Doctor could say anything, Ryan walked up to the officer, looked him in the eyes and said, “Judy’s coming with us. She’s our friend. And that man in there is her father, whom she has the right to see. So let her in, or else.”

The officer stepped back and said, “Her father? Why didn’t you tell me? ‘Course she can come. C’mon, this way!” He stepped in front of everyone and led the way.

Judy looked up at Ryan with grateful eyes and said, “Thank you Ryan. That meant a lot to me. No-one’s ever stood up for me like that.”

Ryan patted her shoulder and said, “No problem. Friends stick up for each other.”

The Doctor smiled at them. Judy was looking into his eyes. Human admiration for each other was so weird, interesting, and beautiful all at the same time.

The officer led them to the back of the jail.”Wait here. I'll move him to the interrogation room,” he said. A few minutes later, the officer came back, and led them into a room. In that room was a table was a few chairs, and on the other side was one chair with a man sitting in it.

The officer walked out of the room.

There was a camera on one side of the wall. The Doctor pointed some sort of tool at it. The tool lit up and buzzed, and the camera turned off. “Can’t have the police spying on us,” the Doctor remarked.

“What is that thing?” Judy asked.

The Doctor grinned and replied, “It’s my sonic screwdriver! It does all sorts of things. Opens doors, controls machines, turns off lights...and I made it myself!”

Judy nodded in approval. Then she turned to her dad. “Dad?”

Her dad, Jackson, looked up. He gasped. “Judy! You shouldn’t have come! It’s not safe!”

The Doctor moved closer to Jackson. “Why isn’t it safe? What’s here? We’re here to help!”

“They’re here!” Jackson whispered.

“Who’s they?” Yaz asked.

“Them! I don’t know what they look like. They make you forget. But they made me rob the bank, and they’ll make you do things too! Please, leave, Judy!” Jackson cried.

The Doctor thought for a moment. His description reminded her of something. Of someone.

“There it is!” Jackson abruptly screamed.

Suddenly, everyone felt tense.

“Why is my heart beating so fast?” Ryan wondered aloud.

Graham spoke up. “We’re standing in different spots then we were! But I don’t remember moving.”

“It’s like, something’s missing in my memory,” Yaz remarked.

Judy gulped. “Uh...guys? It looks like I wrote something on my hand.”

“What did you write?” the Doctor asked anxiously.

Judy shook her head in confusion. “The word ‘silence.’ Why would I write that?”

The Doctor gasped. “I must’ve told you to.” She put her head in her hands and shook her head, visibly distressed.

“Doctor, what’s wrong?” Yaz questioned.

The Doctor looked up, turned very serious, and said, “We’re all in very, very big trouble.”

Chapter 4

“What do you mean ‘very big trouble?’ What does ‘silence’ mean?” Graham asked tentatively.

The Doctor paced around the room for a bit. Then she answered quickly, “The Silence are a race of aliens that make you forget them when you look away. They’ve tried to destroy me in the past. But I defeated them. Every last one of them are supposed to be dead. I guess a couple escaped. Oh, this is so very bad!”

Judy spoke up. “My question is, why are they making people rob banks?"

The Doctor smiled at Judy. “Good question. You’re good at this. Now, I'm not completely sure of the answer, but maybe they were trying to cause a distraction.”

“How are we going to see them without forgetting?” asked Yaz.

“Also a good question! I may be able to build something back at the Tardis. But I need to get there. I can’t summon the Tardis, unfortunately,” the Doctor lamented.

“I’ll drive you there. Gosh, I’ve been doing a lot of driving lately,” Judy reflected.

“Okay, you and I will go to the Tardis. Ryan, Yaz, Graham, stay here. Remember, if you see a Silent, draw a mark on your hand so you’ll know you saw one. Okay?” the Doctor said assertively.

Everyone nodded.

Judy turned to her dad. He was shaking. “I’ll be back, okay Dad?

“Please be careful, Judy! It’s not safe,” Jackson cried.

“I know. But it’s not safe anywhere. I'll be fine. The Doctor’s with me,” Judy assured.

“Just be careful. I love you.”

Judy smiled. “Love you too, Dad. C’mon, Doctor. Lets go.”

...

“I don’t want you to get pulled over, but we kind of need to go faster,” the Doctor said while Judy was driving.

Judy abruptly swerved into a back alley and said, “We’ll go faster if we take a shortcut through the back alleys.”

The Doctor nodded.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in the middle of the road. Judy screeched the car to a stop. “Oh, lord, that thing is ugly!” she cried.

It was a Silent. It resembled a skeleton with no mouth, big eyes, and it had three large fingers on each of its hands. It was wearing a suit and tie that looked wet.

“Judy,” the Doctor yelled, “do not look away! We’re going to get out of the car and talk to it. Can you get your camera up without looking down at your phone?”

“Probably,” Judy replied.

“Take a video so we remember,” the Doctor ordered.

Judy nodded. They got out of the car. Judy held up her phone, successfully starting a video without looking away from the alien.

The Doctor started to ask questions. “Why are you here? I thought you were defeated on the fields of Trenzalore. And also, on Earth, I annihilated you by making every human kill you unconsciously, remember that? How did you survive?”

“Who are you?” the Silent asked. His voice chilled Judy’s bones.

“You don’t remember me? I’m the Doctor. I regenerated. New body. Like it? I think I have a nicer chin,” the Doctor reflected.

“No! We thought that you, too, died on the fields of Trenzalore!” the Silent yelled.

“Nope. Timelords regenerate. Now, you didn’t answer my question. How are you here?”

“There is a small colony of the Silence that survived Trenzalore. We are in a ship above this planet, ready to invade.”

“Why?”

“We thought you were dead.”

The Doctor chuckled. “So you thought you were free to do anything, since you also thought there was no-one to stop you?”

The Silence said nothing.

The Doctor made a face and said, “Sorry. I'm here to stop you. Your plans are ruined. And nobody dies while you’re here, okay? Not this time. Not on my watch. Got it?”

The Silent craned his neck. “We’ll see about that, Doctor.” Then he disappeared.

Judy blinked.

The Doctor blinked.

"Doctor...what..." Judy stuttered. She looked around. She and the Doctor had got out of the car. How?

"Judy, I think we saw a Silent. I don't remember what he said, though. Gosh!" the Doctor remarked.

Judy looked down at her phone. Her eyes widened. "Look, Doctor, I took a video!"

The Doctor smiled. "Yes! Brilliant!"

They watched the video. It was shaky, but it helped Judy and the Doctor remember.

“Okay, let’s get to the Tardis as quick as we can,” the Doctor said after they remembered.

Judy nodded. They got back in the car and soon, they pulled up on the highway.

Judy winced as she recalled why she had come here the first time.

The Doctor smiled as they got out of the car, and caught sight of the Tardis. “Now,” she said, “I told you that the Tardis is bigger on the inside, right?”

“Yeah, but...I'm still not that sure what that means,” Judy hesitated.

The Doctor grinned and opened the door of the Tardis. “Well, friend, you’re about to find out. Come on in.”

She walked in. Judy slowly followed.

...

Back at the police station, Jackson put his head in his hands and sighed.

“What’s wrong, Jackson?” Yaz asked.

“I’m worried! What if they get caught by one of those... things?” Jackson whimpered.

“Don’t worry. The Doctor will protect your daughter. They’ll be back soon,” Graham reassured.

Jackson looked up and cried, “I don’t even know who this ‘Doctor’ is! For all I know, she could be an agent for them! Doctor? Doctor who? Why does she hide her name?”

Ryan leaned forward, looked into Jackson’s eyes and said, “I don’t really know why she hides her name, but trust me mate, the Doctor will keep Judy safe. I trust the Doctor with my life. You should too.”

Jackson fell silent. Ryan spoke up again. “Is anyone else hungry?”

“Yeah. Very hungry, actually,” Yaz answered.

“I could go for some crisps,” Graham agreed.

Ryan stood up. “I’ll be right back.”

About a minute later, he came running back in, breathing heavily. Yaz stood up and ran over to him. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

“I...I don’t know, actually,” Ryan answered confusedly.

Yaz grabbed his hand and looked at it. She frowned. “You drew a black mark on your hand. You must’ve seen one of the Silence.”

Suddenly, they heard a man scream, “Please, NOO!”

“The policeman!” Ryan, Yaz, and Graham all yelled.

They ran out of the room. “Stay here!” Graham ordered Jackson.

They ran to the room where they heard the policeman. “Where is he?” Graham asked aloud.

Ryan knelt down. “Hey guys, check this out.”

There was a pile of dust on the floor. Yaz looked concerned as she said, “The Doctor didn’t tell us this, but do you think the Silence have the ability to disintegrate people?”

Ryan’s eyes widened, and he quickly drew his hand away from the dust.

...

The Doctor smiled at Judy’s face as she walked into the Tardis.

“Oh...my...gosh!! Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my GOSH!! No way!” Judy screamed.

The Doctor laughed and put her hands on her hips.

Judy ran out of the Tardis, then ran back in. “This is AMAZING! This...this completely defies the laws of physics! Crikey!” she shouted.

The Doctor winked at her. “Bigger on the inside, hey?”

“WAY bigger on the inside. Like, HUMONGO on the inside!” Judy said excitedly. She looked around a bit more, then turned to the Doctor and remarked, “You really are an alien, aren’t you?”

The Doctor smirked. “Have you got a problem with that?”

Judy grinned. “No, not really. Actually, not at all!”

The Doctor smiled and said, “Good! You really are an official member of the fam!”

Judy looked down. She smiled softly and said, “Thank you. That means a lot.”

“No prob. Now, I must get to work. You can look around, but don’t touch anything. Please. If you press a certain button, it may hurtle us into the Time Vortex, we will spin out of control, and we will be erased from existence and be annihilated into tiny particles of space dust. Okay?” the Doctor asked in a cheery voice.

Judy’s eyes widened. “Okay then.”

Chapter 5

This day was getting to be a bit crazy. Or this night, rather.

That’s what Judy thought as she watched the Doctor rummage through old parts. “I’m putting something together that will help us not forget the Silence,” the Doctor had said.

Judy yawned.

“Tired?” the Doctor asked.

“Yeah. How about you?”

“Nah. I rarely get tired when I'm in the middle of something. I’ll be exhausted by the end of this, though. But then I’ll get distracted before I go to sleep, and yeah...it’s a continuous cycle,” the Doctor answered quickly, while fiddling with a small data chip.

Judy walked around the Tardis console, taking it all in. She kept the conversation going. “Ever try counting sheep...or whatever your, um...particular race of aliens count?”

The Doctor looked up and made a face. “I tried counting subdural hematomas, but it ended up just grossing me out.”

Judy laughed. She had no idea what those were.

“Aha! Got it!” the Doctor suddenly shouted, scaring the life out of Judy. The Doctor held up a small, square-shaped data chip. “Right, so this will go on the side of your head. It connects to your brain, and it will send out waves of information that will block the psychic connection that the Silence have with your brain, thus stopping you from forgetting that they were there. Okay?”

Judy nodded. “Got it. Will it hurt to put it on?”

The Doctor shrugged. “No idea. Let’s find out together.”

...

Ryan paced the floor of the interrogation room.

Yaz spoke up. “If the Silence really can disintegrate, the stakes just got way higher.”

“I mean, we don’t really know until the Doctor tells us. Let’s not jump to conclusions,” said the ever so optimistic Graham.

“Graham, how else would that man have died?” Yaz argued.

“We don’t even know if that man is dead, alright? He could just be captured, or something!” Graham replied.

Yaz shook her head.

“Guys, let’s stop arguing about it, and wait till the Doctor and Judy come back, okay?” Ryan interrupted.

Everyone went silent. Then, all of a sudden, they heard a loud whirring noise. “The Tardis!” Yaz shouted. Indeed, it was the Tardis. It appeared in a corner of the room. Jackson’s eyes went wide.

Judy stumbled out of the Tardis and looked around, a bit dazed. “Oh my gosh. We really did move!”

“Of course we did!” the Doctor exclaimed as she followed Judy out. “Why the heck would I have a time machine if it didn’t work!”

Judy shrugged. “For decoration?”

Graham chuckled.

Yaz noticed that the Doctor and Judy had metal chips on the sides of their foreheads. “What are those—on the sides of your heads?” she asked.

The Doctor started passing the chips around. “These will help you not forget the Silence. Put them on,” she said hurriedly.

“It will hurt a little. Like an electric shock. But it will go away fast.” Judy explained.

Ryan, Yaz, Graham and Jackson all put them on. They let out a little yelp.

“There now, you’ll all be fine,” the Doctor assured.

Ryan perked up. “Doctor! We have a question. Can the Silence disintegrate people?”

The Doctor went quiet. Then she turned very serious and asked, “Why would you ask me that?”

Yaz explained. “We heard the policeman scream. So we ran to the room to find him. We didn’t find him, but we found a pile of dust on the floor.”

The Doctor put her head in her hands and cried, “No, no no!”

“Is it true? The disintegration thing?” Graham pushed.

The Doctor sighed. “Yes, it’s true. I had hoped we wouldn't get to this.”

“The poor man,” Jackson remarked.

“What’s our plan, boss?” Judy inquired of the Doctor.

“First off, please don’t call me ‘boss’. We’re a team. Second...I think our plan is to find out what the Silence is doing. Like, why are they having people rob banks? They don’t need money,” the Doctor quickly remarked.

“Doctor, shouldn’t we deal with the Silence that are in this building first?” Yaz insisted.

The Doctor slowly pointed at Yaz and said, “Good point, Yasmin Khan! We can’t leave Judy’s dad alone with the Silence.”

“I could come with you?” Jackson slowly asked.

“Dad, you’re in jail,” Judy pointed out. “We would be arrested if we were seen with you.”

Jackson sighed in exasperation.

The Doctor slowly spoke. “I can get you out and clear your name, but I can’t take you with us when we face the Silence. You’re just not traveling companion material.”

“Fine. But what about Judy? Does she come with you?” Jackson asked.

The Doctor nodded. “Yeah. Don’t worry. I'll keep an eye on her. I can protect her better than you ever could.”

Jackson’s eyes flashed with anger. “How dare you say that? I can protect my own daughter!”

“No, you can’t. You’ve let her get beat up by her mother, verbally and physically! Have you not noticed the bruise on her face?” the Doctor yelled, pointing at Judy.

Judy looked at the ground.

“Well yeah, but I thought she had fallen or something,” Jackson yelled back.

“Judy, tell your dad what happened,” the Doctor ordered.

“Doctor, is now the best time?” Judy asked.

“Now or never! Judy, tell him. NOW,” the Doctor said, using the strictest tone Judy had ever heard. She decided it would be best to obey.

“Mum beat me up for bringing friends to the house,” Judy said sheepishly.

“What the...love, you can bring whatever friends to the house that you want!” Jackson remarked.

“Try telling that to Mum,” Judy whispered. She choked back a sob. Graham spoke up. “This is wonderful and everything, well, maybe not wonderful, but uh... we really should go.”

The Doctor breathed air through her teeth. “Everyone, get in the Tardis. We’ll go drop Jackson off.”

Everyone slowly walked into the Tardis. Yaz slowly put her arm around Judy. Judy accepted the friendly affection gratefully.

Chapter 6

The Tardis landed outside of Judy’s flat complex. Everyone walked out.

Jackson spoke to Judy. “Judy, I need to speak to you for a minute...alone.”

They walked off.

The Doctor talked to her fam while they waited for Judy. “I know what Judy was doing on the bridge when we found her.”

“What?” Yaz inquired.

“She was going to jump off...and commit suicide.”

Ryan, Yaz and Graham all gasped.

“Did she tell you this?” Ryan asked, with a startled look on his face.

“No, but trust me, I know that’s what she was doing,” the Doctor confirmed.

“We have to talk to her about it,” Yaz pushed.

“Not all at once. Judy won’t like that attention. One of us, alone, can talk to her at some point.”

They would have continued to talk about this, but Judy came back, and they fell silent.

The Doctor opened the Tardis doors. “Back inside!”

Once inside, Judy asked, “So, what’s the plan?”

The Doctor spoke. “We’ve got to deal with the Silence that are on the planet, then deal with the big ship above the Earth.”

“Why have they only been in West London? Why not, I don’t know, all of London?” Judy asked.

The Doctor pulled a small lever on the Tardis console, and something fell into her hand. She yelled, “Good question, Judy Davis! You get a biscuit!” She threw the thing in her hand to Judy, and Judy caught it. It was, indeed, a biscuit.

Judy smiled and said, “Why a biscuit?”

The Doctor made a face and answered, “Because I love biscuits, and I think everyone else should love them too!”

Judy laughed, and bit into the biscuit.

The Doctor turned serious again. “My question is, why did they choose certain people to rob the banks, and not others? I’m gonna look up your dad real quick, Judy.”

The Doctor spent a few minutes tapping on the Tardis screen, looking up files and records.

...

On the Silence’s ship above the Earth, a Silent walked up to the Silent Leader, who was on the bridge. The Silent Leader spoke. “Do we have our next target?”

“Yes, Leader,” the Silent answered.

“Her name?”

“Judith Davis.”

The Silent Leader nodded in approval. “We must show the Doctor that we remember. We will remember our brothers who were lost. We must remind the Doctor of the horrible murder that the humans did.”

...

“Aha! I’ve got it!” the Doctor yelled, scaring the life out of everyone. “Judy, your father is a direct descendant of Canton Everett Delaware III, who helped me stop the Silent invasion in the time of President Nixon! I guess he had a wife at some point. He was in the FBI for a while, but they kicked him out.”

“Why?” Graham asked.

“For wanting to marry...not a woman. Ulch. Well, anyways, this must mean that all the robbers are related to people who helped me stop the first Silent invasion! Hold on a minute...okay, yes, I just did a quick search on all the robbers’ ancestors...one moment...”

For a few moments, the only sound you could hear was the furious tapping of the Doctor’s fingers on the Tardis screen. She smiled and said, “Yes! There it is! I was right! The robbers are all related to people that stopped the Silent invasion! And they all live in West London! So there!” In a rare burst of emotion, the Doctor violently hit the Tardis screen, and it spun around the console.

“I still don’t understand,” Ryan said. “Why those specific people?”

“Because...because...ohh!” The Doctor gasped.

“What is it, Doc?” Graham asked.

“They must be survivors! The Silence, that we’re facing right now, they didn’t get killed! So they’re showing me that they remember what the humans did to them...by giving me clues to follow! Oh, I am brilliant,” the Doctor replied, drifting into her own thoughts.

“It might help us figure out who they’re targeting next, right?” Yaz asked.

“Absolutely!” the Doctor cried.

“I might know who it could be,” Judy said shyly.

Everyone looked at her. She continued. “If my dad’s related to that Canton guy, then that means I am too. Shouldn’t I be next on the list?”

Everyone fell silent. Then the Doctor spoke. “That um...that actually makes sense. Which means we can’t let you out of our sight. The control stops here. I won’t let you be controlled.”

Judy smiled. “I trust you.”

The Doctor nodded. “Good.”

...

Back on the Silence’s ship, the Silent Leader and a few other Silents were staring at live footage, on a screen, of Judy. Suddenly, they extended their hands towards the screen and opened their mouths.

...

“So, I guess we have to find the Silence before they get to Judy,” Ryan hypothesized.

“Yeah, and...” the Doctor started. But at that moment, Judy suddenly covered her ears and yelled, “Ahh! Too late! OW!”

The Doctor ran over to Judy, sonic screwdriver in hand. “Oh, no you don’t!” she cried.

A horrible ringing filled Judy's ears. She fell backwards, gripping the Tardis console.

“Judy,” the Doctor yelled, “stay with us! Don’t let them take over you! Fight it!”

The Doctor sonic-ed Judy’s head, trying to fight the telepathic signal. But it was too late.

Judy slowly looked up at the Doctor. Her eyes were completely red. She smiled evilly. “Hello, Doctor,” she said, in a low voice.

“Judy…?” the Doctor stammered.

Judy shook her head. “No. I am the Silent Leader. I am using a telepathic signal to communicate through this human’s body.”

“Let her go!” the Doctor yelled angrily.

“No. Just no.”

The Doctor clenched her teeth. “I figured out your pattern. Clever.”

“I am a survivor of the war that the humans waged on us,” the Silent Leader admitted. “I still blame you.”

The Doctor closed her eyes and had a flashback. She could hear the Silent’s voice, “You should kill us all on SIGHT.” Then she could hear the gunshots and yells of humans killing the Silence, on the same day that the first moon landing occurred,

The Doctor came back to the present. She said, “You deserved it. You went too far. You needed to be killed.”

The Silent Leader laughed. It was disturbing to hear Judy laugh like that. “Yet you didn’t kill a single one of us. You made the humans do the dirty work for you!”

The Doctor frowned. “I was a different person back then.”

“Yeah. Totally different. Have you seen your own chin? It was madness!” the Silent Leader joked.

“I didn’t know the Silence could make smart alack comments,” the Doctor said cautiously.

The Silent Leader made a confused face, then smiled. “I’m rooting around in this human’s brain, drawing aspects of her personality and implementing it into our conversation. She’s fighting. She’s like a kicking and screaming child. Wow. I like her. I think I’ll keep her.”

Ryan suddenly spoke up, and screamed, “No you won’t! Get out of her! Right now, or else!”

The Silent Leader pointed at Ryan. “You, Ryan, she barely knows you, and she has feelings for you already. Humans are so gross.”

The Doctor suddenly smiled and said, “Thanks for talking, ‘cause I just tuned my screwdriver to a frequency that will shut off the telepathic connection you have with Judy’s body. Bye!”

The Doctor pointed her sonic screwdriver at Judy and turned it on. A loud beeping sound filled the Tardis, causing everyone to cover their ears.

Judy fell to the ground.

The Doctor bent over Judy. “Judy?” she said carefully.

“Doctor...” Judy whispered. Then she promptly passed out.

Chapter 7

Judy’s head swirled. She could hear talking, but she wasn’t sure who it was. She slowly tried to open her eyes.

She was covered in a blanket...no, it wasn’t a blanket, Judy realized...it was the Doctor’s coat. Judy smiled. Then she groaned. Her head did a somersault, as she tried to get up. The Doctor noticed her. She ran towards Judy and knelt down. “How are you feeling?” she asked hurriedly.

“A bit woozy. Here, here’s your coat. Thanks for letting me use it. I don’t need it anymore,” Judy replied.

The Doctor smiled and took the coat. “No problem. Do you like my coat?”

“It smells a bit interesting. When was the last time you washed it?” Judy questioned.

The Doctor looked at Judy with a confused face and said, “Uh...washed?”

Judy’s eyes widened. She groaned again and held her head.

Ryan walked over. He held out his hand. “Here, I’ll help you get up.”

The Doctor moved over. Judy grabbed his hand and tried to pull herself up. Ryan took hold of her arm to steady her. Judy got on her feet. “Whoa,” she said. Her feet failed her and Ryan caught her in his arms. “Got ya,” he said.

Judy looked into Ryan’s eyes and slowly laughed. He flashed his big white teeth into a smile.

Ryan steadied Judy onto her feet again. This time, she stood.

“Well bravo, you two,” Graham randomly said.

“Graham!” Yaz chastised.

Judy spoke. “Okay, um...what exactly happened to me?”

The Doctor explained. “The Silent Leader used a telepathic signal to take over your body. But I was able to repel the signal. It took a lot out of you.”

Judy nodded. Ryan still had his hand on her back. He could probably let go, yet she didn’t tell him too.

...

Jackson opened the door of his flat. It was quiet, and dark. He looked at the time. 5:30. In the morning.

He realized that he had been up all night. So had Judy and her weird new friends.

The Doctor. Jackson still wondered who that mysterious woman was. Why had she not said her name? Was she really a doctor? And why in the world had he trusted his daughter with those people?

Jackson noticed that his older daughter, Jill, was sitting on the couch, looking at her phone. When she saw him, she gasped, stood up and whispered, “Dad? Shouldn’t you be in...”

“Jail? Yeah, I know,” Jackson interrupted. “We’ll deal with that later. Listen, why are you up this early?”

“I...I’ve been up almost all night, waiting for Judy. Dad, I was about to call the police! Do you know where she is?” Jill asked.

“She’s in very capable hands, trust me.” I think. I hope that Doctor is capable. “Where’s your mother? Isn’t she worried about Judy, too?” Jackson inquired.

Jill frowned. “She’s sleeping. She doesn’t seem to care that Judy’s gone. Dad, what’s that on your face?” She pointed to the data chip on Jackson’s forehead.

“That doesn’t matter right now. Now Jill...oh...oh my...”

Jackson looked, and there was a Silent right behind his daughter.

“What is it?” Jill questioned.

“Sweetie, there’s something behind you, but listen: do not scream when you look at it. We don’t want to wake your mother. It’s a Silent, and when you look at it, do not look away, because it makes you forget when you do. That’s why I’m wearing this chip,” Jackson explained.

Jill made a confused face and slowly turned to face the Silent. She promptly slapped her hand over her mouth to prevent herself from screaming.

Jackson stayed calm. “What do you want?” he asked the Silent.

"Your daughter,” the Silent said quickly. Before Jackson even realized what was happening, the Silent had put his hand on Jill’s shoulder, and teleported them both away.

“No!” Jackson cried. He cursed under his breath. For a moment he didn’t know what to do. Then he saw Jill’s phone on the floor. He picked it up and dialed Judy.

...

“Soo,” the Doctor said, while pressing random buttons on the Tardis console, “I guess we need to figure out what to do next. Maybe it’s time to tackle the big ship in the sky.”

Everyone nodded. Then, the ring of a cell phone echoed through the Tardis. Judy reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. “It’s my sister.” She answered it.

“Jill?”

“No. It’s Dad.”

“Dad, why are you using Jill’s phone?”

“Well, first of all,” Jackson explained, “they took away my phone when I got in prison. Second of all, a Silent came to the house and kidnapped your sister!”

Judy’s eyes widened. “Oh my gosh! Where did they take her?”

“I don’t know. It just came out of nowhere and teleported her away, before I could even stop them!”

Judy took a hold of her feelings. “Okay, Dad, don’t worry. The Doctor will find her. I’ll call you if anything happens.”

“Be careful, please, Judy,” Jackson pleaded.

“I will. Bye.” Judy hung up and sighed.

“What’s going on?” Yaz asked.

“A Silent showed up at my flat, and kidnapped my sister. Doctor, we have to find her!” Judy said.

“Oh my goodness. Yes, of course! Now, fam, where do you think she could be?” the Doctor questioned.

Graham spoke up. “What about the police station? There were some Silents still there when we left it.”

The Doctor pointed to Graham and yelled, “Yes! Of course! You are a genius, Graham! Plugging in the coordinates now!”

Chapter 8

The Tardis slowly materialized in the front part of the police station. Judy walked out, a bit dizzy, and said, “I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that.”

Everyone else walked out behind her. “You’ll have to get used to it,” the Doctor said. “You’ll be doing a lot more of it in the future.”

“What do you mean?” Judy asked.

The Doctor walked over to Judy and looked down into her eyes. “You’re a part of the fam now, Judy. You’re going to travel with us. I’m not going to let you be abused by your mother anymore.”

Judy looked up at the Doctor, and quickly wrapped her arms around her. The Doctor smiled and returned the hug.

“Oh my gosh,” Judy said breathlessly, “why am I hugging you? I never hug people?”

“You need it,” the Doctor replied. “Listen, as much as I would love to stand here hugging you all day, we have to find your sister, Judy.”

Judy held on for moment, then let go. She quickly wiped away a tear that she thought no-one saw.

The Doctor pointed her sonic screwdriver at random places and said, “Your sister is here, Judy, I’m sure of it.

“Got it,” everyone said in unison.

Before they split up, Graham leaned over to Ryan, gave him a fist bump, and said, “Good luck, son.”

“You too, Grandad,” Ryan replied.

Judy frowned and leaned over to Ryan, and whispered in his ear, “Graham’s your grandfather?”

Ryan nodded. “Yeah, he was my gran’s second husband. He’s cool.”

Judy nodded and smiled.

...

Ryan and Judy ran down corridors with rooms, looking in the window of every one of the doors. They ran down a hallway of numbered rooms. Judy stopped in front of a closed door. She looked through the window. She gasped and whispered, “Ryan, look!”

Ryan looked through the window. There were many Silents in the room, who were holding Judy’s sister. She looked terrified.

Ryan took charge. “Sit down, Judy. I’ll text the Doctor.”

Ryan tapped on his phone for a few moments. “Okay, she’s alerting the others and will be here in a few minutes.”

They sat in silence for a moment. Then Ryan spoke. “Judy, the Doctor figured out what you were doing on that railing when we found you. I think we need to talk about it.”

“Right now?” Judy inquired.

“Yeah. Were you about to commit suicide?” Ryan asked.

Judy was quiet for a second. Then she nodded.

Ryan shook his head. “Judy, you have your whole life ahead of you. You can’t cut it short! There are people who care about you!”

“I see that now, Ryan. Thanks to the Doctor. Thanks to you,” Judy said gratefully.

“You know, Judy,” Ryan said slowly, “I’ve only known you for about nine hours, but I feel like I’ve known you my whole life.”

“Yeah, same here,” Judy whispered.

They looked into each other’s eyes. Ryan slowly dipped his head closer to Judy’s. Judy closed her eyes as he slowly kissed her.

“Don’t you think it’s a bit early for that?” a voice interrupted. Judy and Ryan sprung away from each other and looked up. It was Graham. Yaz was standing next to him, a surprised expression on her face.

Ryan and Judy simultaneously stood up. “Where’s the Doctor?” Ryan asked.

“I don’t know...oh, there she is!” Graham exclaimed, pointing to the end of the hall.

The Doctor was running to them, sonic screwdriver in hand, her long coat flowing behind her. The wind from her running swept her hair to the side, and revealed earrings on her ear.

In that moment, Judy suddenly had the thought that the Doctor was beautiful. In so many ways.

She skidded to a stop. “Which room is it?” she asked hurriedly.

Judy pointed to the room. The Doctor looked at the room number and whispered, “Well, that’s unsettling.”

“What?” Yaz asked.

“The room number is thirteen.”

“So? What does that have to do with anything?” Judy questioned.

The Doctor shook her head violently. “It’s nothing. Nothing. Okay, fam, you ready to go in?”

She motioned towards the door. Everyone nodded. The Doctor continued. “Listen, guys, whatever happens, I appreciate you all, and good luck. Also, let me do the talking, ‘kay?”

Once again, everyone nodded. The Doctor grinned cheekily and opened the door.

...

The Doctor led the way into the room. All the Silents noticed her, and stared.

“JUDY!” Jill screamed.

“Jill,” Judy said calmly, “calm down. I’ll get you out of this. Don’t worry.”

Jill nodded, still obviously terrified.

“Let her go,” the Doctor ordered the Silence. “This fight is between you and me.”

A Silent walked up and argued, “No! The humans have been killing us for years! We have reason to fight them too.”

Another Silent walked up. “There is one good thing about humans. They work hard. We need more humans to work for us.”

“Why?” the Doctor inquired.

“We need their help. We are working on something on our ship.”

“What are you working on?”

The Silent tilted his head. “Why would we tell you?”

The Doctor frowned. “Well, you’re not taking Jill.”

The other Silent spoke. “We don’t want her. She is too weak. We need two of your friends. In particular, Judith Davis, who shows great potential in her brain, and Ryan Sinclair, who is not only smart but strong in his body.”

The Doctor suddenly turned very angry, and gritted her teeth. “You will not lay a hand on them, you monster. I won’t let you take them.”

“Then Jill Davis will die,” the Silent said promptly. A Silent close to Ashley raised his hand as if he would strike her.

Judy jumped forward. “No!” she cried. “Stop! I’ll go willingly, just please, don’t kill her!”

Ryan stepped close to Judy. “I’ll go, too.”

“No, no! Don’t go!” the Doctor pleaded.

“Ryan!” Yaz chastised.

“Now, think about this for a moment. They’ll kill you,” Graham said.

Judy turned to face them. “Listen, they won’t kill us. They’re gonna make us work.” Judy looked at the Doctor and lowered her voice. “Doctor, just get in the Tardis and come get us. You can go anywhere. We’ll be fine.”

The Doctor nodded. “Okay. I’ll be there in five minutes, I promise. Oh Judy!” The Doctor wrapped her arms around Judy.

Judy smiled. “Two hugs in one day, goodness Doctor, that’s a record!” She let go of the Doctor.

“You’ll have to make that three hugs,” Yaz spoke up. She hugged Judy. Judy laughed.

Judy went back to stand next to Ryan. They faced the Silence.

“Let Jill go,” Ryan said, “and then you can take us.”

The Silent forcefully pushed Jill away.

“Judy,” Jill pleaded, “don’t go!” Judy surprised Jill by simply winking at her.

What occurred next happened very fast for everyone. Ryan’s hand was in Judy’s, two Silents grabbed them, and they were gone.

...

And that’s the story of how I, Judy Davis, will never see my Doctor again.

They took us to their ship, which is more like a prison camp. They make us build stuff. We don’t even know what it is.

Ryan and I have been here for three months, and we have given up all hope of the Doctor coming for us.

Apparently for years the Silence have been collecting people in groups of two and bringing them to the ship. They keep track of the humans who work for them, they stamp a mark, like a tattoo, on our necks. To save space, Ryan and I share the same room, with my bed on one side, and his on the other.

The food they bring us is terrible, but we need our strength.

Every night I look out the window and dream that I can hear the strange sound of the Tardis in my bedroom, and the Doctor’s cheery voice telling me that she has come to rescue us. But it never comes. And I think it never will.

Epilogue

Judy sat in her bed, listening to the soft purr of Ryan’s snore across the room.

Then she heard it.

The Tardis.

“Ryan, wake up!” Judy yelled.

He snapped to attention. He grinned and jumped out of bed when he heard the noise.

The Tardis landed.

Two people walked out. Neither of which Ryan nor Judy recognized.

There was a man and a woman. The woman was short, had dark brown hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a miniskirt. The man was old, with wild gray hair, crazy eyebrows, and was wearing a simple suit with no tie.

Judy was confused. “Who are you? Where’s the Doctor?”

“Well,” the man said, with a strong Scottish accent, “I believe that I am the Doctor.”
